City Island is a quaint and scenic waterfront community in the Northeast Bronx. Despite the community’s many assets, transportation to and from the island is an ongoing challenge, Public transportation options are limited to the BX 29 bus, and for drivers, there is only one road to get on and off the island. Because it is a local tourism hub, weekend traffic overwhelms the local roads into the community.
As part of a comprehensive ferry route along the east coast of the Bronx (one that we hope will extend to Westchester in the future), a ferry stop on City Island would provide an alternative option for accessing the island from other parts of New York City, as well as provide local residents with a much-needed transportation alternative.
